Routine Foot Care includes the treatment of toenails and callus areas. Toenails may be healthy, thickened or fungal. Debridement of the toenails involves a process of cutting and trimming the nail, followed by a grinding or filing down of the nail plate. There are multiple reasons while a toenail may be thickened including episodes of previous trauma, fungal infection, bacterial infection or systemic illnesses that manifest in the toenail. Calluses and corn formations are areas where the skin layers build-up and cause a thickening. These areas may become sore and inflamed. These areas are subject to increased pressure and are susceptible to blister formation and may lead to infection if left untreated.
