What is Podiatry?

What is Podiatry?

Podiatry is a branch of medicine committed to the study, treatment and management of foot and ankle disorders. The vastly complex anatomy of the human foot depends on a cooperative interaction between a flexible structure of bones, muscles, joints, soft tissue, arteries and nerves to facilitate a wide range of complex movements and maintain balance.

A podiatrist is a specialist devoted to the precise diagnosis and supportive management of foot and ankle ailments. While susceptible to gradual wear and acute injury, chronic diseases such as diabetes and arthritis can also affect the delicate tissues within the extremity. Conservative treatments, such as proper footwear, orthotics and hygienic maintenance, are a primary focus of management. However, some disorders may require more aggressive medicinal assistance and/or surgical intervention.

Mission Statement

We at Professional Podiatry emphasize the development of unique and supportive relationships with our patients to compassionately and effectively provide superior podiatric care and education. The task of finding a doctor and discussing medical conditions can be intimidating and uncomfortable for some. Mutual trust and respect are fundamental steps toward successful treatment and prolonged podiatric health.
